AFRICAN ELECTORAL INSTITUTE (AEI) STRONGLY ADVOCATES/RECOMMENDS THE ELECTORAL COMMISSION (EC) TO COUNT AND COLLATE THE PRESIDENTIAL VOTES FIRST BEFORE THE PARLIAMENTARY VOTES

The African Electoral Institute (AEI) strongly recommends/ advocates the EC to count and collate the votes cast for the presidential elections on 7th December 2024 before counting and collating the parliamentary votes cast.
This is because the presidential outcome has the whole nation tensed and gripped on the media to hear results but the parliamentary is for an area/ constituency.
Therefore, since the presidential results are national, that should be given a priority before the counting and collation of the parliamentary votes to help de- stress the nation.
In addition, the counting and collation of the presidential result first will uphold the integrity and confidence of the election results because many voters will not leave the polling stations and collation centres as many normally do immediately the parliamentary results are declared.
African Electoral Institute therefore pleads with the EC and IPAC to implement this strategic arrangement of counting and collation during the 2024 7th December elections.
