AFRICAN ELECTORAL INSTITUTE (AEI) CALLS FOR AMICABLE RESOLUTION OF OUTSTANDING DISPUTES IN THE JUST ENDED NEW PATRIOTIC PARTY’S (NPP) CONSTITUENCY EXECUTIVE ELECTIONS.

The African Electoral Institute (AEI) has taken note of the successful conduct of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) nationwide constituency executive elections held on Saturday, 11th July, 2026.
AEI did not deploy observers to the exercise. This statement is based on secondary observation of official party reports and media coverage of the elections.
According to the NPP, elections were held in 245 out of 276 constituencies, representing an 88.7% success rate. The party described the process as largely peaceful, with delegates electing new executives to lead party affairs at the constituency level across the 16 regions.
The NPP General Secretary, Hon. Justin Kodua Frimpong, commended party members for their discipline and commitment, which contributed to the largely peaceful conduct of the polls.
Key Observations
AEI notes that while the majority of constituencies completed voting without major disruptions, some challenges were reported. These included:
– 23 constituencies where elections were put on hold due to disputes
– 4 constituencies – Ningo Prampram, Atwima Mponua, Obuasi West and Trobu – unable to hold elections due to last-minute challenges
– Court injunctions restraining elections in Tema East and Tema Central
– Incidents of procedural concerns and disagreements over delegate albums, including a reported disruption in Bantama which led to the destruction of electoral materials and the arrest of suspects.
The NPP has indicated that the National Steering Committee will review activities in Afigya Sekyere East, Adansi Asokwa, Bantama and Asante Akyem Central before determining the way forward.
AEI’s Position
The African Electoral Institute recognizes the constituency elections as an important step in the NPP’s internal reorganization and preparation ahead of future contests.
In view of the reported disputes and pending cases, AEI calls on the leadership of the NPP to amicably resolve all outstanding disputes in the affected constituencies.
AEI further encourages the party to uphold internal democratic principles, due process, and dialogue to preserve party unity and the integrity of its structures.
AEI remains committed to supporting democratic governance and credible internal party processes across the continent.
