AEI Extends its Deepest and Heartfelt Condolences Following Devastating Helicopter Crash in Ghana
The Africa Electoral Institute (AEI) extends its profound sympathy and heartfelt condolences to the families, colleagues, and the entire nation of Ghana following the tragic military helicopter crash that occurred on Wednesday, 6 August 2025, in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.
This catastrophe claimed the lives of all eight individuals aboard the Ghana Armed Forces Z‑9 helicopter, including Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister of Defence, Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation. The others are Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Aboagye, former parliamentary candidate, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
We stand in solidarity with the Government of Ghana, the bereaved families, the Ghana Armed Forces, and all citizens of Ghana during this period of profound grief.
Our thoughts and prayers are especially with those families enduring the unimaginable pain of this loss. We honour the memory of these brave public servants who dedicated their lives to the service of Ghana. May their legacy inspire continued commitment to national unity, peace, and democracy.
